Jerry C. Dawdy, 69, of Sioux City passed away unexpectedly Friday, June 14, 2013 at his residence.
Abiding by his wishes, cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. Burial will follow the services in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Jerry was born Nov. 23, 1943, the son of Ernest and Ruth (Wingert) Dawdy. He graduated from Bronson.
He married Mary Anna Klingensmith on May 3, 1964, at Bethal Lutheran Church in Lawton, Iowa. They had two children, Terri and Troy. He later married Karen Simmons on Dec. 9, 1994.
Jerry served his country in the U.S. Army. He worked at American Gear, Steffens and retired from Chesterman's after 32 years. After his retirement, he worked at Goodwill.
Some of Jerry's hobbies included bowling, golfing, fishing and camping. He was also known for his big heart and always helping others. He enjoyed spending time with his family including his sisters, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and children.
He will be remembered for his generous heart and great sense of humor.
Survivors include his wife, Karen Dawdy; two children, daughter, Terri (Steve) Schultz, and son, Troy Dawdy; two grandchildren, Brittni (Eric) Staben and Tyler Schultz; three great-grandchildren, Logan, Cameron and Jayden; stepchildren, Tony Vermilyea, Ryan Vermilyea and Shay (Pat Gant) Hitchcock; stepgrandchildren, Jade Johnson, Makenzie Oltmans, Toby, Brady, K.C. and Danny Hitchcock, Cutler Gant, Stone and Mila Vermilyea; great-stepgrandchild, Elijah; sisters, Shirley (Jerry) Barth, Mildred (Red) Volkert, Delores (Ralph) Tuttle, Nancy (Dale) Patten and Beverly (Gary) Rocky; many cousins and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Jackie and his parents
