Jerry L. Owings, 78, of Sioux City, died Wednesday, April 25, 2018, at his residence.
Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Homes. Visitation will be noon until service time Saturday at the funeral home.
Jerry Leonard Owings, the son of Arlie and Eva (McNeely) Owings, was born on Jan. 13, 1940, in Sac City, Iowa.
On Jan. 28, 1964, Jerry was united in marriage with Mary Louise Carpenter in Elk Point, S.D. He was a maintenance worker at Blessed Sacrament Church. He was also employed at I.B.P. Jerry loved to work as a baker, which he did at the Red Owl and the Food Emporium in Albuquerque, N.M. His favorite job came after his retirement in 1989, when he dealt blackjack on the Riverboat Casino.
Jerry was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He also was known as "Grandpa" to all the neighborhood children.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Mary of Sioux City; children, Laura (Melvin) Rodriguez of Alcester, S.D., Christine (Daniel) Treadway of Sioux City, and David Owings of Sioux City; 16 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and 12 siblings.
