Jo Ann Chilton, 83, of Sioux City died Saturday, March 12, 2016, at her home in Whispering Creek.
Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Homes. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 1 p.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home.
Jo Ann was born on May 21, 1932, in Grand Island, Neb., the daughter of Jack and Jessie (Brewer) Sheffield. As a young girl, she moved with her family to Sioux City, where she attended school and graduated from East High School in 1950.
Jo Ann married Duane Chilton on July 2, 1949, in Elk Point, S.D. They made their home in Sioux City. In January 1959, they purchased A & A Photo. They ran and expanded the business for more than 25 years. Jo Ann was also a part owner of The Bridal Suite in the 1970s. She also worked at Coldwell Banker Realty. Duane died in March 2005.
Jo Ann was a member of St. James United Methodist Church for more than 50 years, the Siouxland Singers and the Morningside Eastern Star. She read thousands of books over the years and was an avid bingo player.
Survivors include three sons, Michael (Carla) Chilton of Sioux City, Mark (Rhonda) Chilton of Pinetop, Ariz., and Mathew (Liz) Chilton of Sioux City; eight grandchildren, Heather (John) Wormsley, Jenny (Tom) Holladay, Hilary (John) Budde, Leslie (Justin) Ritchie, Adam (Kim) Chilton, Sarah (Aaron) Spartz, Tom Chilton and Betsy Chilton; 16 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Barbara Maxfield of Sergeant Bluff.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Duane; sister, Patricia Mesmer; and brother, Robert Sheffield.
