Jesus came to take Jo Ann Patton home on Sunday September 4th, 2022, in Sioux City Iowa, at the age of 72. She was surrounded by her loving family who were holding her hands during her peaceful passing.
Visitation will be at Christy Smith-Larkin Funeral Home Thursday, September 8th 5:00-7:00 pm, with a prayer service at 7:00 pm. Funeral service will be at Wesley United Methodist Church, 3700 Indian Hills Drive, Sioux City, Friday, September 9th at 10:00 am with luncheon to follow. A private family burial will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Jo Ann was born on April 22, 1950, to Lee and Evelyn (Jones) Woolworth. She spent her youth in her favorite neighborhood of Leeds, graduating from Leeds High School in 1969. She met the love of her life, and her future husband, Ray Patton Jr, at Leeds High School. They were married August 2, 1969. This union created 3 children Robert, Richard and Rebecca. Jo Ann loved spending time with family. She was well known as a volunteer for her children’s various activities such as Girl & Boy Scout leader, Volleyball & t-ball coach, supportive Coach’s wife, Sunday school teacher, chaperone for teen events and active in the PTA. She also enjoyed attending as many of her grandchildren’s events as she could, even in the later years when attending events became a challenge due to her poor health. She worked 30 years in the Sioux City School district at various elementary schools as a diligent building aide and secretary. She truly enjoyed working with school children.
Jo Ann was a member of Wesley United Methodist of Sioux City from birth until she relocated to Akron in 2013, when she then became a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church there.
Left to cherish Jo Ann’s memory are her children Robert (Shannon), Richard (Tara), and Rebecca, eight wonderful grandchildren: Josie, Payton, Madison Green, Andrew, Lauren, Kolby, Kaden and Kali Patton; Sister Judy Lewis, Sisters-in-law Peggy and Charlotte Woolworth. Also, many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, parents, three brothers: Leland, Jeffrey, and Douglas Woolworth. Pallbearers will be her eight grandchildren.
