Sioux City - Joan Marie (Dumke) Guillaume, 68, of Sioux City entered life Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2014, at the University Of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, following injuries from a vehicle accident on Jan. 27, 2014.
Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Grace Lutheran Church in Sioux City. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Joan was born on Nov. 3, 1945, in Marinette, Wis., to William and Hertha (Priewe) Dumke.
She was united in marriage to Kenneth Guillaume on Dec. 31, 1966, in Marinette. She attended Martin Luther College in New Ulm, Minn., and the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks. After raising her family, Joan returned to teaching as a Headstart teacher for many years, and prior to her retirement she worked in the Sergeant Bluff School System.
Joan was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and taught Sunday School for most of her life. She was especially active in Lutheran Women’s Missionary Society. She was a member of the tap dancing group the Happy Hoofers at the Center for Active Generations. She enjoyed quilting, was a master gardener, and loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Those left to honor her memory include her husband, Kenneth; children, Kirk (Amy) Guillaume and their children, Katherine and Timothy of Brooklyn Park, Minn., Jill (Darin) Minogue of Louisville, Ky., Melissa Powell and her children, Callie, Brandon, and Justin of Louisville, and the Rev. Nicholas Guillaume of Cincinnati, Ohio; brothers and sisters, William (Vicky) Dumke, Mary Hovey, Alice Rastall, David Dumke, George (Mary) Dumke, Karen (Rick) Kuran, and Roy (Holly) Dumke; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Esther Dumke; and brother-in-laws, Roger Rastall and Edward Hovey.
