Joan M. Rector, 80, of Sergeant Bluff, died on Sunday, Feb. 11, 2018, at an assisted living facility in Sergeant Bluff.
Services will be at 10 a.m. on Friday at St. Boniface Church of the Cathedral of Epiphany Parish in Sioux City with the Rev. Mario Sanchez officiating. Entombment will follow at the Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum. Visitation will be on Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at Christy-Smith Funeral Homes, Morningside Chapel. Joan was born Aug. 5, 1937, in Sioux City to Clarence and Selma (Ringler) Berger. She attended St. Boniface Catholic School in Sioux City.
Joan married Isaac Francis Rector on Feb. 16, 1957, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Sioux City. The couple made their home in Dakota City, Neb., for a few years and then moved to the west side of Sioux City.
Family was a very important part of her life. She was a very loving mother and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Joan enjoyed doing crafts, painting and shopping for her friends and family.
She was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church.
Those left to cherish her memory are her five children, Isaac F. Rector Jr. of Jacksonville, Fla., Ella M. Tonjum (Mark) of Ames, Iowa, MaDonna A. Vaydich (Larry) of Sioux City, Randy J. Rector of Moville, Iowa, and Larry J. Rector (Amy Smith) of Bridgeport, W.V.; 10 grandchildren, Isaac F. Rector III, Mark Tonjum Jr. (Tammi Arends), Matthew Tonjum (Jamie), Michael Tonjum (Carrie Dodd), JoAnna Hale (Michael,) Jessica Selde (Joseph), Joseph Cohen, Miranda Rector, Raymond Rector and Fisher Rector; five great-grandsons with one more on the way; two great granddaughters; five sisters, Mary Ann Schieve of Colorado Springs, Colo., Elaine Harms of Sioux City, Helen Schmitt of Aurora, Colo., Joyce Anderson of Liberty Hill, Texas, and Betty Berger of Sioux City; and a brother John Berger (Sandy) of Newcastle, Neb.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Francis; parents; and a brother, Raymond Berger.
The family would like to thank Hospice of Siouxland and the staff at Embassy Health Care in Sergeant Bluff for all the loving care they provided to Joan.
