SIOUX CITY -- Joan Carol Tibbetts, 64, formerly of Sioux City died Sunday, June 14, 2009, at Richwood Center West Care Center in Seward, Neb. following a lengthy illness.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Sioux City, with the Rev. Anthony A. Allard officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Joan was born Dec. 30, 1944, in Sioux City, the daughter of Horace R. and Gladys M. (Spencer) Tibbetts. She was raised in Sioux City and moved to Allen, Neb., around 1968. She lived there for a number of years before moving to Goehner, Neb. She lived there until she had moved to Seward because of her failing health.
She was employed on the egg line at Milton G. Waldbaum Co., in Wakefield, Neb. for 13 years. After moving to Goehner, she went to work at Lori's Kitchen in York Neb., for 10 years. She took care of her mom and dad when they started to lose their health and did so until their deaths. She promised them, they would never have to be in a nursing home. She helped her mother with the vegetable garden and the canning.
She was a member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, both in Seward and Sioux City. She enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and her many nieces and nephews. She took care of everyone's children while her brother and sisters worked. She enjoyed riding the Seward handicapped bus every Monday to town for shopping and visiting with lady friends. She also used to help clean and paint the Dixon County Courthouse in Ponca, Neb.
She is survived by a brother, Daniel J. Tibbetts of Sioux City; two sisters, Hazel J. Keil and her husband, Nick of Beaver Crossing, Neb., and Wendella "Wendy" S. Tibbetts of Milford, Neb.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her sister-in-law, Kathy R. Tibbetts on June 14, 2009.
Pallbearers will be Jason Tibbetts, Chris Tibbetts, Shawn Hartman, Jeremey Miller, Wesley Keil and Zach Keil.
