SIOUX CITY -- Joel Martin Bard Jr., 89, of Sioux City passed away Oct. 14, 2010.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Morningside Chapel, Christy Smith Funeral Home.
Joel was born in Allen Neb., on March 12, 1921, the son of Joel Martin and Alice (Crabbe) Bard. He moved to Sioux City with his parents in 1925, where he has resided except for serving in World War II. He was a crew chief serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps in the South Pacific. He was called back for a short time for the Korean War.
Joel worked for Holtz construction for 32 years, supervising many of Sioux City's outstanding commercial buildings, Morningside Commons and other Morningside College buildings, St. Vicente's Hospital, Wayne State Dormitory, several Briar Cliff College buildings and Toy National Bank.
He was also a prominent figure in the golfing world of Sioux City, playing in many city and area tournaments. Joel enjoyed a long retirement, golfing on many courses and enjoying the warmth of the southern winters.
Survived include his loving wife of 64 years, Mina (Williamson) Bard of Sioux City; daughters, Lea Ann and husband, Ron Rochon of Des Moines, and Karen and husband, Curt Winchester of Tucson, Ariz.; sister-in-law, Helen Reeves of Texarkana Ark.; daughter-in-law, Karen Bard of Omaha; grandchildren, Matt and Molly Stence, Jennifer Stence, Angela and Mark Fisher, Debra Winchester, Kelly and Keith Deveny; and great-grandchildren, Kelsey, Ben, Jamie, Lily, Henry, Avery, Lindsey, Jessica, Jared, Lexie and Lindzey.
He was preceded in death by his son, Joel M Bard III of Omaha Neb.; brother, Dean Bard; and parents.
