John Washington Blair

SIOUX CITY -- John W. Blair, 66, of Sioux City died Thursday, Nov. 24, 2011, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Morningside Lutheran Church. The Rev. Bill Pulscher will officiate. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
John was born Aug. 7, 1945, in Sioux City, the son of Victor and Ina (Cook) Blair. He was a lifelong Sioux City resident and graduated from Central High School in 1964. He attended Morningside College for three years.
On Dec. 30, 1966, he married Janice K. Hemingson in Sioux City. John had worked at the Sioux City Foundry, Prince Manufacturing, Sioux Tools, Schaeff Industries and was currently working as a cost accountant for Simonsen Industries in Quimby, Iowa.
He was active at Morningside Lutheran Church and was a prayer warrior at the church. John was a charter member of the International Industrial Engineers Society. He coached Sioux City youth football for 25 years and had served as president of that association. He raised and raced homing pigeons. He loved football and was a huge Iowa and Dallas Cowboys fan. The most important part of his life was spending time with his family, especially his two grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Janice; a son and his wife, Jason and Paula of Blaine, Minn.; two grandchildren, Breonna and Jordan; his brothers and sisters, Frank and Josephine Blair, and Betty Bobier, all of Sioux City, Shirley Blair of Thousand Oaks, Calif., Perl Blair of Las Vegas, Nev., and Mibs and Jim Prickett of San Diego, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Opal; and three brothers, Clair, Victor and Ray.
