HINTON, Iowa -- John T. Dodds Jr., 44, of Hinton, died Sunday, Oct. 10, 2010, at a Sioux City hospital of injuries suffered in a auto accident.
Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The Rev. Craig Collison will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a parish vigil service at 7 p.m., at Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
John was born April 10, 1966, in Sioux City, the son of John T. Sr. and Beverly (Winget) Dodds. He was raised in Sioux City and graduated from North High School in 1985. John served in the U.S. Navy for four years and was stationed in Washington State most of the time.
On July 31, 2004, he married Mary Patricia Miller in Sioux City. He worked at Alorica, Gateway and Hirshbach Trucking Co.
John was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He loved riding his motorcycle, rock climbing and was teaching himself to play the guitar. What he loved most was spending time with his wife and children, parents, brothers and sisters. Family was a very important part of his life.
He is survived by his wife, Mary of Hinton; his three children, Hannah, Alexander and Isabelle; his father and stepmother, John T. Sr. and Melinda Dodds of Sioux City; his mother and stepfather, Beverly and Frank Rivers of Raleigh, N.C.; his brothers and sisters, Melanie (Alan) Leatherman of Castle Rock, Colo., Melinda Hesse of Sioux City, Chad (Ann) Dodds of Salida, Colo., Chad (Havilah) Oostra of Denver, Colo., Todd (Kate) Oostra of Lake Alferd, Fla.; his grandmother, Patricia Benson of Kansas City, Mo.; many nieces and nephews including Michael Dodds; and his mother-in-law, Molly Miller of Whiting, Iowa.
