John Wayne Fenton

SIOUX CITY -- J. Wayne Fenton, 71, of Sioux City passed away Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2010, at his residence.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Morningside Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. David Koehler officiating. Visitation will be 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday, with the family present 5 to 7 p.m., at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Wayne was born Aug. 23, 1939, in Nisland, S.D., the youngest of six sons to Jacob Oscar and Ruth (Scotney) Fenton. He attended rural Langdon School and graduated from Nisland Public High School in 1957. He went on to attend the University of South Dakota, graduating in 1961 with a bachelor's degree in commercial art. He joined the U.S. Army Reserves in 1962 and served six years as a member of the Sioux City Army Reserve Unit.
Wayne was united in marriage to Audrey L. Acton on March 2, 1963. Following graduation, he was employed by Gordon Robinson Advertising Agency as a graphic artist. In 1974, he became employed by the Gerkin Company as director of advertising and marketing until 1990. He joined Lite-Form International in 1991 as marketing director, retiring in March 2007.
Wayne was a longtime member of Morningside Presbyterian Church, where he was in various organizations. He was trustee and served as elder for several terms. He taught adult Sunday School for many years. He was a current member of the Morningside Presbyterian Men's Club. He and Audrey were members of the Clipper Club, where they were officers for two different terms. They were also members of the Marterians. He also served as a Scout leader for Troop 208 at Morningside Presbyterian Church. Wayne and Audrey were jointly honored as Presbyterians of the Year in 1983.
He was a member of the Siouxland Advertising Club for several years and served in several office positions and was Printer's Ink Advertiser of the year in 1975. During the nation's Bi-Centennial, he helped develop a historical coloring book that was given to all of the first-graders in the city. His graphic art designs can be seen around the Siouxland area by some of the company logos that he helped create. Examples include Wilson Trailers, the Sioux City Stockyards, Jerry's Pizza, Old Home Bakery, the former Payless Cashway, and My Favorite Cleaners. He also did different artwork for his church that can still be seen today.
Survivors include his wife, Audrey of Sioux City; a son, Scotney John and Susan Fenton of Des Moines; a daughter, Lorilie Lavonne Fenton of Des Moines; a grandson, John Fenton (son of Scotney and Susan); two brothers, Oscarlee and Nancy Fenton of Grants Pass, Ore., and Donald Ray and Kathy Fenton of Newell, S.D.; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers.
Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Siouxland or Morningside Presbyterian Church in his name.
