John L. Haines, formerly of Sioux City, died Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2018, in Deepwater, Mo.
Memorial services will be 4 p.m. Saturday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Homes in Sioux City.
John was born on Feb. 23, 1940, to Homer and Leona (Herring) Haines, in Portland, Ore. He worked for many years as a sheet metal worker for Interstate Air Conditioning. John also served in the Iowa Air National Guard for 29 years, retiring from the 185th Air Refueling Wing, and having attained the rank of chief master sergeant.
John is survived by sons, John Haines, Dale Haines, and Robert Haines; daughter, Lori Ann Messerschmidt; brothers, James (Rosalie) Haines of Sioux City, and Lawrence (Jan) Haines of Camdenton, Mo.; sisters, Arlene Thompson and Diane Muth, both of California; 19 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lillian; sisters, Barbara Rochester, Patricia Talbott, and Carol Hageman; brother, Homer "Tommy" Haines; son, Anthony Wayne (Karlene) Haines; and infant son, Steven.
