SIOUX CITY -- John Richard Kelly Jr., 53, of Sioux City died unexpectedly Saturday, Feb. 6, 2010, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Church of The Nativity, with the Rev. Gerald Feierfeil officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a parish vigil service at 7 p.m., at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
John was born in Sioux City on Jan. 15,1957, the son John R. "Dick" Sr. and Theo (Minear) Kelly. He was a lifelong resident of Sioux City, attending Immaculate Conception Grade School, East Junior and graduating from East High in 1975.
On Sept. 28,1985, he married Kathy Kambach at the Church of Nativity in Sioux City. He worked at Metz Baking Co. for 25 years and retired in 2003.
He was a member of Baker's Local 433. He was also a member of the Church of the Nativity. John loved sports whether is was coaching recreational softball or watching his favorite teams, the Yankees, the Steelers and the Iowa Hawkeyes. John also loved to listen to music of all kinds especially Neil Young. The thing that John loved the most was spending time with his wife and his family.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy; his mother, Theo Kelly; his sister and brother-in-law, Patty and Gene Persinger; his sister, Marsha Maron, all of Sioux City; his mother and father-in-law, Fred and Marie Kambach of Omaha; his brother-in-law and his wife, Paul and Trudi Kambach of Sioux City; his sister-in-law and her husband, Pam and Jim Cullen of Milwaukee, Wis.; many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews; and Dexter.
His father and his grandparents preceded him in death.
He will be missed by all those whose lives he touched.
A memorial has been established in his name and may be directed to the family.
