John C. Lewis, 96, of Jefferson, passed away Monday, Feb. 16, 2015, at a nursing home in Elk Point, S.D.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Christy Smith Funeral Home Morningside Chapel in Sioux City, with the Rev. Merrill Muller officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, with family present 5 to 7 p.m., at the funeral home.
John was born Jan. 18, 1919, in Sioux City, to Charles and Alma (Covey) Lewis. He was a lifetime resident on the family farm in Jefferson.
He married Lorraine Green on March 8, 1941, in Sioux City. She preceded him in death in 2012. They spent 71 years together.
John was a farmer all his life. He was a member of Riverside Methodist Church.
John enjoyed fishing, camping, and potluck picnics with his family. He was lovingly referred to as "Grandpa Farm."
Survivors include his children, John Lewis Jr. of North Sioux City, Tom (Jacki) Lewis of McCook Lake, S.D., Kathy (Kevin) May of Jefferson and Steve (Brenda) Lewis of Jefferson; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; brothers, Sam, Bill, Bob, Harold and Walter; sisters, Ellen McCormick and Marie Vandever; daughter-in-law, Helen Lewis; and a great-grandson, Brett.
