SIOUX CITY -- John "Johnny" William Queen, 77, of Sioux City passed away Thursday, Aug. 20, 2009, at his residence after an extended illness.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home, with Pastor Jerry Gilbreath of First Lutheran Church in South Sioux City officiating. Visitation will be 10 a.m. until service time Monday at the funeral home.
Johnny was born on Feb. 9, 1932, in Homer, Neb., to Lawrence and Margaret (O'Dell) Queen. As a child, the family moved to South Sioux City; this is where he grew up and attended school. He graduated from South Sioux City High School.
He married Geraldine (Jeri) M. Abdouch on July 26, 1952, in South Sioux City. John retired in 1992 after 37 years with IPS/MidAmerican Energy. He was a devoted union supporter and was a member of Local 499.
Johnny was a member of the Eagles, Harbor Club through IPS. He was probably happiest when he was hunting and fishing, although he also enjoyed camping with family and friends. Johnny enjoyed riding his motorcycle and taking cruises with his wife and friends.
He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Marina (Marnie) Kunert of Mason City, Iowa, and Denise Chapman, currently of South Sioux City, formerly of Honolulu, Hawaii; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Michael; and a sister, Dorothy Rose.
