John F. Richou, 73, of Sioux City died on Thursday, April 25, 2013, at a Sioux City hospital, after a courageous three-year battle with pulmonary fibrosis.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. David Hemann officiating. Interment will be 3 p.m. Tuesday in Memorial Park. Visitation with the family will be 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
John was born on March 27, 1940, in Sioux City, Iowa. He was the son of Edward and Gertrude (Geary) Richou. He lived in Sioux City most of his life. He attended Heelan High School and Central High School.
On March 12, 1960, he married Patsy Gifford in Mexico and then they had the marriage blessed by the Catholic Church on April 16, 1960, in California. The couple returned to Sioux City, and John worked with his father at Richou Plumbing. He later owned the company until he sold it in 2000. Patsy died on June 1, 1995, in Sioux City.
John was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church. He had many hobbies. He loved riding motorcycles and golfing. He was a master at teasing family and friends, and loved to play practical jokes. He loved classical music and enjoyed the art of cooking. He took great joy in helping family and friends with their plumbing problems, even after he retired. He truly loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and his friends.
He is survived by his two daughters and their husbands, Kelly and David Anderson of Sioux City, and Kari and Mike Ricard of Luton, Iowa; the love of his life, Pat Lewis; seven grandchildren, Dustin (Amanda) Behrens, Corey Behrens, Taylor Behrens, Molli Jo Scott, Beau Scott, Chad (Alissa) Anderson and Jake (Becky)Anderson; five great-grandchildren, Emma Jo Scott, Wilsie and Cassie Anderson, Max and Kael Anderson; his special second family, Jeff (Missy) Lewis, Dan (Shelly) Lewis, Lynne (Jim) Walker, Jody (T.J.) Wente; grandchildren, Aubrey, T.J. (Two), Jacob, Sam, Rachel, Lauren, Will and Jack; his sister and her husband, Connie and Bill Rasmussen of Sioux City; his brother, Leo Richou of Simi Valley, Calif.; sister-in-law, Deb Hamar; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Patsy; sisters-in-law, Barb Plumb and Carole Johnson; brothers-in-law, Darold Hamar and Denny Johnson; and mother-in-law, Darlene Harvey.
The family wants to extend a special thanks to Dr. T.J. Wente, Hospice of Siouxland, the 4th floor nurses at St. Luke’s, his best friend, Gary Swanson and the love of his life, Pat Lewis, for all the love and care they gave John during his illness.
