John S. Stanek, 90, of Sioux City, passed away Monday, March 21, 2016, at Countryside Nursing Home in Sioux City.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Christy Smith Morningside Chapel, with Pastor Harold Werley officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services Saturday at the funeral home.
John was born Dec. 26, 1925, in Sioux City, to John and Anna (Wildow) Stanek. John graduated from East High School in 1944. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1944, serving until 1946.
John married Dorothy Jensen on July 20, 1951, in Sioux City.
He worked for Curtis Sash and Door. John also worked for Sioux City Public Schools for 35 years as a custodian/engineer.
He loved to travel, the outdoors, anything Dorothy wanted to do, and most importantly, spending time with family.
Survivors include his daughter, Theresa "Terry" (Dennis) Golden; granddaughter, Keri (Dustin) Boyle; great-granddaughters, Emmalee and Isabella; nieces, Cindy Asmussen-Doden (Albert Doden), Kay (Gary) Cook, Lynn Kroesen (Jay), Barb Flom and Patty Jensen; nephews, Rodney Jensen and Larry Kobald; sister-in-law, Rose Jensen; and brother-in-law, Bob Jensen.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dorothy; brother, Joe; and sisters, Mary Bekish, and Lucy Kobald.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Hospice of Siouxland.
