John Stewart, 71, of Sioux City died Friday, June 3, 2016, at his home.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Boniface Catholic Church. Burial will be at a later date. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, with family present 6 to 8 p.m., a Masonic service at 6:30 p.m. and a parish vigil at 7 p.m., all at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Homes.
John was born on April 26, 1945, in Onawa, Iowa, the son of Bernard and Hazel (Stanton) Stewart. He grew up in Sioux City, graduating from Central High School in 1964.
John married Barbara Jeanne Gengler on June 18, 1965. They made their home in Sioux City. Over the years, John worked as a truck driver.
He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church and the Riverside Lodge 662 AF & AM. John liked his toys, cars, trucks, guns, fishing, hunting and everything else. He loved to visit nursing homes and everywhere else. John had been a Pace volunteer and liked woodcarving.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Jeanne Stewart of Sioux City; a son, Doug (Shannon) Stewart of Sioux City; a daughter, Michelle Thomas of Sioux City; four grandchildren, Emily Stewart, Jeriah Thomas, Olivia Stewart and Gabby Stewart; an aunt, Dorothy (Jack) Lindley of Onawa; many brothers and sisters-in-laws, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Bernard "Bud" Stewart.
