Joleen A. Rich, 76, of Sioux City passed away Thursday, Aug. 14, 2014, at a local nursing home.
Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Monday in Graceland Park Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Joleen was born on March 18, 1938, in Sioux City, to Glenn and Bernice (Esterberg) Johnsen. She graduated from Sioux Rapids Consolidated in 1956, Drake University in 1959, and received her master's from Morningside College in 1984.
Joleen was united in marriage to Darol Rich on April 8, 1978, in Nashua, Iowa. She worked as a teacher for various schools in Storm Lake, Leeds, and Sioux City for 33 years. She retired in 1997.
She was a member of Morningside Presbyterian Church and a member of the Teachers Association. Joleen loved to travel, especially going on cruises and Elder Hostel trips with groups. She traveled to Peru and went through the Amazon. She enjoyed John Wayne movies and the Old West. Joleen had a lifelong love of movies, books and dogs.
Those left to honor her memory include her son, Bill (Beth) Riley of Hinton; brother, Larry Johnsen of Le Claire, Iowa; grandsons, Daniel and Desmon Riley; two nieces and one nephew.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; and a sister-in-law, Pat Johnsen.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Siouxland.
