Jon R. Wirth, 58, of Sioux City passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, March 31, 2015, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. Inurnment will be at a later date in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 11 a.m. until service time Monday at the funeral home.
Jon was born on Nov. 25, 1956, in Cherokee, Iowa, to Fred and Elva (DenHerder) Wirth. He lived in Wakefield, Neb. as well as South Sioux City, before graduating from Wakefield High School. Jon was currently employed at Overhead Door in Sioux City, where he had been working since 2007. He had previously worked for IBP, John Morrell, and New York Life.
He was united in marriage to Tammy Murphy from 1978 to 2007. To this union they had two sons.
Jon enjoyed running, going to Iowa Hawkeye football games, camping with his family, fishing, socializing with his friends, and attending his grandson's sporting events.
Those left to honor his memory include his sons, Matt Wirth of St. Charles, Mo., and Aaron Wirth (Brittany Holmes) of Sioux City; grandson, Noah Wirth of Sioux City; Tammy Murphy-Wirth of Sioux City; brothers and sisters, Joel Wirth of Marshalltown, Iowa, Diane (Dale) West of Larrabee, Iowa, Muriel Weesling of Le Mars, Iowa, Sherry Moret of Des Moines, Mike (Karen) Wirth of Wakefield, James Wirth of Lincoln, Neb., and Tammy Gronquist Wirth of Houston, Texas; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; sister and brother-in-law, Linda (Charlie) Scheelhause; grandniece, Aaliyah West; and grandmother, Minnie DenHerder.
