Sioux City - Jose Guerra, 95, of Sioux City died Friday, Aug. 31, 2012, at his home.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with the Rev. Michael Erpelding officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today, with a Knights of Columbus rosary at 6 p.m. and a parish vigil service at 7 p.m., at Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Jose was born on Aug. 8, 1917, in Roma, Texas, the son of Ramon and Tomasa (Pena) Guerra. He grew up and attended school in Roma.
Jose married Margarita Barrera on Oct. 19, 1947 in Roma, Texas. They moved to Sioux City in the late 1960s. She died in 1980. Jose married Gladys Perez on Sept. 14, 1985. He worked for IBP, retiring in 1981.
Jose was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and a Third and Fourth Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include his wife, Gladys Guerra of Sioux City; son, Jose Jr. and Rosalinda Guerra of Brownsville, Texas; daughter, Yolanda Guerra of Sioux City; daughter, Tomasa Salas of South Sioux City; son, Francisco and Barbara Guerra of Murphy, N.C.; daughter, Mireya and Luis Guzman of South Sioux City; 17 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Margarita; and granddaughter, Evita Salas.
