SIOUX CITY | Jose G. Orozco-Martinez, 75, of Sioux City passed away Sept. 15, 2012, at an Omaha hospital.
Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at St. Michael Catholic Church in South Sioux City, with the Rev. Oscar Perez officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Sioux City. Visitation will be 4 to 6 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a rosary at 6 p.m., at Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Jose was born on April 12, 1937, at St. San Julian, Jalisco, Mexico. He grew up in Mexico. As a teenager, he was a migrant working in the fruit fields in California. In 1978, the family came to Denison, Iowa. They later returned to Mexico. In 1988, the family returned to Sioux City, where they have resided ever since.
He married Maria E. DeAnda-Arellanes on July 12, 1975, in Sandiego de Alejandria, Jalisco, Mexico. Jose worked on the production line at Tyson Foods, formerly known as I.B.P., for many years.
He was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church in South Sioux City. He enjoyed raising cattle and honey bees, working on his farm, and family gatherings. He played soccer for 30 years and was a huge soccer fanatic.
Survivors include his wife, Maria, of Sioux City; a daughter, Angelica and Arturo Lozano of Storm Lake, Iowa; two grandchildren, Brandon L. and Johanna J. Lozano; a son, Jose Orozco Jr.; five grandchildren, Joseph, Esperanza, Elizabeth, Briana and Julianna Orozco; and a sister, Lucina Orozco.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Maurilio Orozco.
