JACKSON, Neb. -- Joseph F. Cote, 94, of Jackson passed away Monday, Dec. 22, 2008, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Jackson, with the Rev. Paul Albenesius officiating. Burial will be in St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery, South Sioux City. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Larkin Northside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home in Sioux City.
Joseph was the oldest son of Meddie and Emma (Girard) Cote, born April 1, 1914, in Clyde, Kan. The family moved to South Dakota, then later to farms in Dixon and Dakota counties in Nebraska, where he was a lifelong farmer.
He married Margaret Christensen, the daughter of Pete and Lena Christensen, on Aug. 28, 1940, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Jackson.
He was currently a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus Father Trecy Council in South Sioux City and a Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus Garrigan Assembly in Sioux City.
He served several years as a special deputy in Dakota County. He also served as a member of the ASCS committee and on the board of directors of Dakota County and Covington rural Fire Department. He served as president of the former Timber School.
He is survived by his wife; three daughters, Donna Martin of Vinton, Iowa, Jeanne and John Pullis of Sioux City and Peg and Tom Sims of St. Augustine, Fla.; three sons, Robert Cote of Fremont, Neb., Richard and Sue Cote of Valley Bend, W.V., and John and Sally Cote of El Mirage, Ariz.; 20 grandchildren; 10 stepgrandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Arsema and Betty Cote of Sedalia, Mo., and Leroy and Josephine Cote of Grand Island, Neb.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Marie Peck; two brothers, Freemond and Alcid; an infant sister; a grandson, Lance Polly; and two grandsons in infancy.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons.
