Joseph Albert Dickes, 75, of Sioux City died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2007, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Church of the Nativity. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., and a 7 p.m. parish vigil service, at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel. Online condolences may be sent to

Joseph was born March 18, 1932, at Fordyce, Neb., the son of Joseph and Magdalena (Binder) Dickes. He grew up in Fordyce and graduated from Fordyce High School. Joseph then joined the U.S. Air Force.
After his honorable discharge, he married Jeanette Wieseler on Sept. 22, 1954, at St. Helena, Neb. Together they made their home in Sioux City. Joseph worked for the Fehrs Tractor Allis Chalmers dealer and then for Carlson Machine Company as the parts manager for more than 35 years. Jeanette died on April 4, 2002.
Joseph was an active member of Church of the Nativity and its men's club. He also volunteered for Hospice and was Hospice Volunteer of the Year in 2005 for the state of Iowa.
Survivors include two sons and their wives, Ron and Lori Dickes of Columbia, Mo., and Bob and Linda Dickes of Omaha; a daughter and her husband, Joan and Mark Roeder of Sergeant Bluff; seven grandchildren, Stacy, Kyle, Jeffrey, Lexie, Shane, Derek and Jenny; three great-grandchildren, Zachary, Tucker and Hayden; a brother and his wife, Norbert and Tizzie Dickes of Laurel, Neb.; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends; and his dog, Rugby.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Marina; and two brothers, Harold and Erwin.
