Joseph Daniel Shoop, 91, Sioux City, died on Sunday, Nov. 10, 2013, at a Sioux City nursing home.
Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. The Rev. Armand Bertrand will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a parish vigil service at 7 p.m., at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Joe was born on Feb. 1, 1922, in Walthill, Neb., the son of Benjamin and Ruth M. (Lorenger) Shoop. He was raised in Walthill and graduated from Walthill High School.
On Dec. 24, 1942, he married Mildred Murphy in Monett, Mo. During World War II, Joe served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps. After the service the family moved to Sioux City. Joe worked for Crescent Electric for 43 years and was the manager for 30 years. He retired in 1984.
Joe was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and was very active in the parish. He served on the financial board and helped establish the Catholic Credit Union. He also served on the board of directors at Sunrise Manor and was a 4-H leader. He enjoyed raising cattle, living in the county and loved to garden.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred of Sioux City; his daughter, Loretta Dahlberg of Westminster, Colo.; his son, Dan of Sioux City; his daughter and her husband, Lynette and Gary Jones of Littleton, Colo.; four grandchildren, Randy (Julie) Dahlberg, David Edward (Gina) Dahlberg, Marc (Alisa) Dahlberg, Jennifer (Ben) Feeney; two great-grandchildren, Dayton Dalhberg and Taylor Dahlberg; and two stepgrandchildren, Missy (Gary) Griffin and Shaun Jones.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sons, Stanley David and Brian Harvey Shoop.
