Joyce E. Burdick, 90, formerly of Sioux City, passed away April 29, 2017, in San Antonio, Texas, after a brief illness.
Services will be 1 p.m., Friday May 12, at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Christy-Smith Funeral Homes, Morningside Chapel,1801 Morningside Ave. Online condolences may be made to the family at

She was born on Sept. 20, 1926, in Madison, Wis., to Vi and TJ Stolen. Joyce graduated from East High School in 1945. She married Robert Burdick Sr. on July 12, 1947. They were married for 66 years until his death in February 2014. After his passing she moved to San Antonio, Texas, to be with her daughter’s family. She enjoyed her grandchildren and a full life in Texas.
Joyce was a past Queen of the Daughters of the Nile and was active in Eastern Star. She was a life-long member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church and was a member of the first confirmation class in 1940. She taught Sunday school for many years.
Survivors include her son, Robert (Linda) C. Burdick Jr. of Queen Creek, Ariz.; daughter-in-law, Janis Burdick of Emmetsburg, Iowa; daughter, Susan (John) Pascador of San Antonio, Texas; brother, Roger (Joan) Stolen of Sergeant Bluff; sister-in-law, Mildred Stolen of Sioux City, grandchildren, Matt (Laura) Burdick of Chandler, Ariz., Aimee (John) Styers of Queen Creek, Ariz., Jessica (Ryan) Libby of Minneapolis, Minn., William (Kim) Burdick Jr. of Emmetsburg, and Joey and Sarah Joyce Pascador of San Antonio; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Vi and TJ Stolen; husband, Robert C. Burdick Sr.; son, William Burdick Sr., brothers, Fred Stolen and Vernon Stolen; and sister-in-law Muriel Stolen.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Luke Lutheran Church or the Abu Bekr Shrine Transportation Fund.
