Joyce Marie Carnes, 76, of Sioux City passed away Thursday, Dec. 18, 2014, at her residence, surrounded by her family, after a lengthy illness.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Arrangements are under the direction of Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Joyce was born on Jan. 21, 1938, in Sioux City, to Ervin and Faye (Porter) Clark. She attended East High School and Western Iowa Tech, where she received an associate degree in nursing.
She was united in marriage to Rex Carnes on June 30, 1956, in Sioux City. Together they raised five children here in Sioux City. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary before he preceded her in death in 2006.
Joyce enjoyed gardening, politics, cooking, food, and especially spending time with family. She was a kind and generous person who would help anyone she could.
Those left to honor her memory include her daughters, Jenny Murray, Teresa (Bruce) Salsness and Elaine Carnes; sons, Tim (Rachel) Carnes and Ron (Sheila) Carnes; brother, Jim Clark; brother-in-law, Lyle Carnes; grandchildren, Jessica Liederman, Stacy Murray, Carrie Salsness, Jennifer Salsness, Chelsea Carnes, Natalie Carnes, Lauren Carnes, Sarah Carnes and Grace Carnes; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; brothers, Jerry and Gene Clark; and sister, Shirley Carnes.
