Joyce Elaine Getz, 73, of Sloan passed away Feb. 26, 2013, at a hospital in Rochester, Minn.
Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Patrick O'Kane of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Salix, Iowa, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Sioux City. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 4 to 7 p.m., and a prayer service at 5:30 p.m., at the funeral home.
Joyce was born in Union County, S.D. As a child she moved with the family to Sergeant Bluff, where she grew up, attended school and graduated from Sergeant Bluff High School.
On Oct. 7, 1963, she married Anton Getz at the Cathedral of the Epiphany in Sioux City. After their marriage, the couple moved to Sioux City. In 1998, they moved to Sloan, where Joyce had been a resident ever since.
Joyce was a homemaker and then later worked at Mid-Step Services in Sioux City.
She enjoyed family gatherings, her grandchildren, reading, fishing, embroidering and baking.
Survivors include her husband of 49 years, Anton; three boys, Greg Getz and Debbie Franks of Le Mars, Iowa, Joe "Tony" and Dawn Getz of South Sioux City, and Mike Getz and Bob Booth of Goodyear, Ariz.; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; her mother, Viva Allen of Whiting, Iowa; four brothers; two sisters; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father and an infant son, Timothy.
