Joyce E. Safin, 86, of Sioux City died Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2014, at a Sioux City hospital.
Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Homes, with the Rev. Sharon Cates officiating. Visitation will be noon until service time Monday at the funeral home.
Joyce was born on Feb. 10, 1928, in Steelville, Mo., the daughter of Clyde and Ella (Brown) Blunt. She attended school and graduated from Steelville High School.
Joyce married Walter Safin in August 1945. They made their home in Sioux City. Over the years, Joyce worked as a cook at several places including Paul's Drive Inn, Walgreen's Wigwam Grill, Hinky Dinky Delicatessen, Sioux City Boat Club, J.C. Penney's Restaurant and The Daily Grind. Her husband, Walter, died on April 28, 1996.
Joyce enjoyed quilting, reading, working with her flowers in the garden and listening to baseball games, especially the Explorers and the St. Louis Cardinals.
She is survived by her two children, Kathy Safin of Sioux City, and Joe (Diane) Safin of Crystal Lake, Ill.; two stepgrandchildren, Eric and Mitch; two brothers, Ted (Mary) Blunt and Ben (Dottie) Blunt, both of Missouri; and her dog, Ms. Lucky.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Walter; a brother, Jason Blunt; and an infant sister.
