Judy Aileen Daniels, 72, of Sioux City went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, Aug. 14, 2015, at her home.
Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Central Baptist Church. The Rev. Dr. Lloyd Grant will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Judy was born at home on a farm near Bronson, Iowa, on April 29, 1943, to Robert and Loretta (Ellis) Daniels. She moved with her family to rural Sioux City as a small child and grew up there. She attended country school for two years, walking a mile and a half each way along what was then US Highway 20. She finished her education in Sioux City. Judy graduated from East High School in 1961. She attended Bethel College for one year and graduated from Morningside College in the winter of 1968 with a BS degree in elementary education.
She began her teaching career at Sergeant Bluff-Luton School. In the fall of 1969, Judy began 35 years of teaching third grade at Westwood Community School, retiring in 2004. When Judy began her teaching career she lived in Sergeant Bluff and Salix, Iowa, before moving to Sioux City in the mid 1970s.
She was a longtime member of Central Baptist Church. She taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and was a leader and then director in Awana for many years. She was a member of Sioux City Retired Educators and Maranatha Sunday School Class at Central Baptist. Judy loved animals, especially dogs and had a fascination with wolves. She was an avid Vikings football fan. Over her lifetime, she enjoyed attending Sioux City Explorers baseball games, reading, craft, needlework, photography, Sudoku puzzles, baking and cake decorating. She made many birthday, special occasion and wedding cakes.
Judy is survived by her nieces, Kathy (Chet) Hartung, Christine (Rob) Clause, Lauren (Spencer) Parish, and Donna Lehrkamp; her sisters-in-law, Lois Daniels and Susan Daniels; great and grandnieces and nephews; and many dear friends. Also her dog, Sammy, and her cat, Lucy.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Andrea Daniels; her brothers, Ron and Brad Daniels; her nephew, Todd Daniels; and special aunts, Opal Ellis and Wilma Sappingfield.
