SIOUX CITY -- Judy A. Nelson, 61, of Sioux City died Friday, Feb. 20, 2009, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Redeemer Lutheran Church, with the Revs. Russell Senstad and David Zirpel officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Judy was born Aug. 4, 1947, in Sioux City, the daughter of Louis and Julia (Husman) Baack. She grew up in Hinton, Iowa, graduating from Hinton High School in 1965. Upon graduation, she worked in the office of Jordan Millwork in Sioux City.
She married Edward Nelson on June 20, 1970, in Hinton. After her marriage, she spent time at home raising their two sons, Bryan and Scott.
She was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church, where she held offices with the Calvary Lutheran Women's League, sang in the church choir and was a member of the ladies circle. She served two terms on the district board of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League (L.W.M.L.). She later joined Redeemer Lutheran Church, where she enjoyed helping with small projects and attending Bible studies.
She also enjoyed music, was an avid fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes men's college basketball and the Chicago Cubs baseball. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and granddaughter, Rachael.
Survivors include her husband, Edward; her son, Bryan and his wife, Sarah, and daughter, Rachael, of Des Moines; and her son, Scott and his wife, Tammy, of Tampa, Fla.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Louis and Julia Baack; and a sister, Shirley Heien.
