Juliann Uhl, 72, of Sergeant Bluff, passed away Wednesday, July 22, 2015, at a Sioux City hospital. A funeral mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Church of the Nativity in Sioux City, with Fr. Steven McLoud officiating. Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday in St. Mary's Cemetery, Mapleton, Iowa. Visitation will be 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, there will be a rosary at 4:00, led by the Confraternity of Christian Mothers and a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel.
Julie was born on April 27, 1943 in Wakefield, NE to Frank and Julia (Chalupa) Navrkal. She was raised in the Waterbury, NE area and graduated from Waterbury High School. In 1963, she met Paul E. Uhl at a dance at Shore Acres, and they were married on Aug. 17, 1963, in Waterbury, Neb. They lived in Mapleton until 1968, when the family moved to South Sioux City. In 1972, the family moved to Sioux City and in 1990, they moved to Sergeant Bluff. Julie was a member of Nativity Catholic Church, the Confraternity of Christian Mothers, and the Nativity Rosary group. She served on the Nativity Funeral Committee and volunteered at the Catholic Bargain Center. Julie worked in accounts receivable at Guardian Distribution, formerly Holmes & Hudson, for over 30 years. She enjoyed cooking and baking for her family, attending family reunions, and gardening. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family and took great pleasure from her grandchildren and their activities in sports and dance. Julie always put her children and grandchildren first.
Survivors include: a son and his wife, Jesse A. and Connie Uhl of Pleasant Hill, Iowa and their children, Jared and Shelby Uhl; a son and his wife, Russell P. and Michelle Uhl of Sergeant Bluff and their children, Britni and Brandon Uhl; a daughter, Brenda S. Wilson and Mark Hestness, both of Runnells, Iowa and her daughter, Jessica Wilson, and his children, Cory, Colten, and Caitlyn Hestness and Tyler Henderson; 4 brothers: Ernest (Stella) Navrkal, Ray (Dorothy) Navrkal, Frank (Lois) Navrkal, Melvin (Jenny) Navrkal; 2 sisters: Katherine (Kenneth) Hoffman, Irene (James) Uhl; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Paul; brother Emil Navrkal and sister-in-law Elaine Navrkal. Memorials may be made to Nativity Catholic Church.
