Sioux City - Julie Ann Goede, 65, Sioux City died Wednesday, March 27,2013, at her home.
A celebration of her life will be 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. The body was cremated. Buried at a later date in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Julie was born on May 17,1947, in Sioux City, the daughter of John and Mary (DeWitt) Goede. She grew up at McCook Lake, S.D. and graduated from Riverside High School in 1965. Julie earned her bachelors degree in zoology from the University of South Dakota in 1970. She moved to Sioux City in 1972.
Julie worked at Zenith for 10 years and then at Rochester Products until the plant closed. She worked at Gateway Computers, then Delta Airlines and retired two years ago.
Julie was baptized and confirmed at Riverside United Methodist Church. She loved gardening, especially growing flowers and vegetables.She made great salsa for family and friends from her garden harvest. Julie had a great love for animals whether it was feeding birds, taking care of her dog and cat or just enjoying all of God’s creatures. She was also a jack-of-all-trades. She enjoyed working on cars, lawnmowers and anything mechanical.
She is survived by her mother, Mary McCombs of Panama City, Fla.; her sister and her husband, Suzie and John Jensen of Bronson, Iowa; nephew, Troy Smothers and special friend Jenny of Sioux City; niece, Stephanie Smothers of West Des Moines; niece Susan Henkins of Phoenix, Ariz.; niece, Missy Morris (Joe) of Sioux City; and nephew, Jason Jensen (Mandi) of Bloomington, Minn.
She was preceded in death by her father; a brother, George; her grandparents, George and Emma DeWitt, and Peter and Audriana Goede.
