June M. Dittman, 89, of Sioux City died Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2007, at her residence under Hospice care.
Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Christy-Smith Larkin Northside Chapel, with the Rev. Daniel Anderson, associate pastor of Wesley United Methodist Church, officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services Monday at the funeral home.
June was born on July 29, 1918, in Hawarden, Iowa, the daughter of Nicholas and Marie P. (Riese) Faber. The family lived in the Remsen, Iowa, area for awhile. They moved to Rice Lake, Wis., and then to Jefferson, S.D. June moved to Sioux City. She also lived in Illinois and Nebraska for a short time.
She married Virgil H. Dittman on June 28, 1947, in Omaha. Virgil died on Feb. 13, 2007, in Sioux City. She was employed by Wincharger Corp. during the war years. After her marriage, she became self-employed, cleaning houses.
She and her husband belonged to the Northwest Wood Carvers Club, where June served as an officer. The couple also belonged to several square dancing clubs in the area and the health club in the old Y.M.C.A. Building. June enjoyed working with her hands. She had her own kiln and loved working with clay and ceramics, plus other crafts. She also worked in her flower garden and enjoyed sewing, knitting and crocheting.
Survivors include a son and his wife, Nicholas and Linda Dittman of South Sioux City; a daughter and her husband, Nancy and Harry Weller of Kadoka, S.D.; two granddaughters, Brandee Hauptman and her husband, Heath of Murdo, S.D., and Kendra Mastel and her husband, Neal of Shabbona, Ill.; two great-grandchildren, Chauncy and Blaine Hauptman; a nephew; and three nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother, Eugene Faber; and a sister, Eleanor Larson.
