Karen L. Larson

Karen L. Larson, age 80, of Sioux City died Sunday February 28, 2021 at a local care facility.

Per her wishes cremation has taken place and a Memorial Visitation will be held on Wednesday March 3, 2021 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel, located at 1801 Morningside Avenue, Sioux City.

Karen was born on August 2, 1940 in Garretson, South Dakota, the daughter of Arvin Adolph and Wayva (Lee) Arneson. She came to Sioux City at the age of 3 and lived here the rest of her life. She attended Sioux City Community Schools and graduated from Central High School with the class of 1959.

She was united in marriage with Cecil E. Larson on April 2, 1960 and Mr. Larson preceded her in death on September 24, 2016. The couple met at the Methodist Hospital in Sioux City where Karen served as secretary to the administrator at the hospital.

Karen enjoyed bowling, Tole painting, traveling, and shopping. At one time she made and sold her own candles made in her home. She also assisted at the Morningside College bookstore at the beginning of each semester, served as a volunteer at Unity Point St. Luke’s Medical Center. She loved the time she spent with her family in Estes Park, Colorado.

She is survived by her daughters, Kimberly (Jim) Compton of Sioux City and Sheri (Kelly) Almond of Lawrenceville, GA; and her son, Curtis (Angie) Larson of Sioux City. She is also survived by her 6 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Karen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother, Les; and a sister, Marianne.

In Lieu of flowers the family requests memorials in her name be made to Canine’s for Warriors or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
