Sioux City, Iowa - Katharine B. Ferris, 88, of Sioux City, passed away Tuesday March 11, 2014, at Holy Spirit Retirement Center.
Graveside Services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today at Christy Smith Larkin Chapel.
She was born Feb. 4, 1926, in Sioux City, to Delbert and Katherine (Carver) Browning. Katharine was a lifelong resident of Sioux City. She graduated from Briar Cliff University in 1948.
She married Abraham John (A.J.) Ferris on Dec. 27, 1948.
She was active in many organizations. She was a Den Mother and leader trainer for Boy Scouts of America, and Sergeant Floyd and Prairie Gold Scout Councils. She was a water safety instructor. She was active with Siouxland Chapter American Red Cross, and was a Special Olympics volunteer and organizer since its beginning in Sioux City. She was past president of Briar Cliff University Alumni Association.
Survivors include her sons, James Ferris and Marc Ferris; daughter, Mari Radtke Sutherland, Iowa; grandchildren, Tina (Gary) Eaton, Eric, Mike and John Grove, Sara, Alex and Jake Ferris, Jill (Mike) Mullen, Kyle Ferris, Willis (Gloria) Radtke and Ethan Radtke; and great-grandchildren, Heather and Andrew Eaton, Brock Ferris-Owen, Niemi Radtke, and another expected in October.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; son, Richard Ferris; daughter and son-in-law, Theresa and Gene Grove; and daughter-in-law, Deb Ferris.
