SIOUX CITY -- Katherine M. Nelson, 86, of Sioux City passed away Monday, July 25, 2011, at her residence.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel, with Pastor Tanya Sherrill of Riverside United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.
Katherine was born May 31, 1925, to Roy and Mae (Crittenden) Trobaugh. She graduated from Central High School in 1943. She was a lifelong resident of Sioux City.
Katherine was united in marriage to Walter Nelson on Oct. 21, 1944. They made their home in Sioux City. To this union, four children were born, Tom, Kevin, Lonny and Kristy.
Katherine enjoyed doing canvas work, puzzles, books and singing. She did a radio show at age 19.
Survivors include three children, Tom (Kathy) Nelson, Kevin Nelson and Kristy Whitesell (Domingo Gutierrez); two grandchildren; her brothers and sisters, Susie Paugh, Mildred (William) Hogan, Genevieve (James) Frazee, Bruce (Esther) Trobaugh, Roy (Isabell) Trobaugh, Norma (Sterling) McInnis, Marietta Seaton and Jerry (Debbie) Trobaugh; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter; a son, Lonny; her parents; three brothers and three sisters.
