SOUTH SIOUX CITY -- Keith M. "Bud" Kelly, 89, of South Sioux City died Feb. 17, 2011, surrounded by his family.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at First Lutheran Church in South Sioux City, with the Rev. Jerry Gilbreath officiating. Visitation with the family present will be 3:30 to 7 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 4 p.m., at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Keith was born Aug. 12, 1921, to Edward C. and Pauline Isabelle (Johnson) Kelly in Sioux Falls, S.D. The family lived in Wilmar, Minn., and Garretson, S.D. Bud graduated from Garretson High School. In June of 1942, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving in World War II as a staff sergeant, being honorably discharged in March of 1944. He enrolled in the Hundertmark Art School in St. Paul, Minn., after his military service.
Keith married Lois M. Kraetsch on Oct. 14, 1949, at Ellsworth, Minn. The couple had three children, James, Bruce and Kim. The couple moved to Siouxland in 1952. Bud worked for SS Coe Outdoor Advertising. He later became a partner with Edwin L. (Ned) Adams in SS Coe. In 1962, he and his wife, Lois, founded Adcraft Inc. of South Sioux City. Lois passed away on Aug. 18, 2000.
Keith was a longtime member of the First Lutheran Church of South Sioux City. Bud had a passion for collecting everything from his car collection of Mustangs and Shelbys to his large collection of Nebraska Cornhuskers memorabilia. He also loved spending time at Lake Okoboji with family and friends. He had a great love of and for his family.
Survivors include two sons, James and Holly Kelly of South Sioux City and Naples, Fla., and Bruce and Marilyn Kelly of South Sioux City; a daughter, Kim Kelly and her husband, Steve Nichelson of Lincoln, Neb.; four grandchildren, Justin Kelly, Brandon Kelly, Karyn Kelly and Annie Kelly; three great-grandchildren, Idalis Kelly, Dalton Kelly and Carter Kelly; and a nephew, Michael Fresvik of White Bear Lake, Minn.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois M. (Kraetsch) Kelly; his parents; a sister, Geraldine Fresvik; and a nephew, Kevin Fresvik.
The family would like to thank the June E. Nylen Cancer Center as Bud was a five-time cancer survivor and Hospice of Siouxland for all the wonderful care that they provided to Bud.
