Sioux City - Kenneth E. Beals, 81, of Sioux City passed away Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2013, at Countryside Nursing Home.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Westminster Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. John Pehrson officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery at Sioux City. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. Kenneth was born on April 20, 1932, in Sioux City, the son of Joseph and Eva Beals. Except for his tour in the U.S. Air Force, Ken was a lifelong resident of Sioux City.
Kenneth was married to Joyce Arp on Sept. 24, 1954. Following his discharge from the Air Force, he began work for Iowa Public Service/MidAmerican Energy, retiring in 1996. Ken and Joyce had two sons, Jim and Steve Beals, and six grandchildren.
Ken was very active in his church, serving as a youth teacher and elder. He also worked with Meals on Wheels and was a longtime board member of the Midwest Community Credit Union.
Ken had a great sense of humor and thoroughly enjoyed his large circle of friends and acquaintances.
Ken is survived by his wife, Joyce of Sioux City; son, Stephen (Arika) of Rapid City, S.D.; daughter-in-law, Rebbeca of Lacey, Wash.; brothers, Cliff (Ruth) of Pueblo, Colo., and Evan of Lincoln, Neb; grandchildren, Sarah, Juliann, Dena, Emery, Gwendolyn and Adrian; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, the Rev. James Beals; and brothers, Harold and Howard; and sister, Virginia.
