SIOUX CITY -- Kenneth J. Gries, 71,of Sioux City died and joined the love of his life on Saturday, March 24, 2012.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Southern Hills Baptist Church, with the Rev. Jon Pennington officiating. Graveside services will be 3 p.m. Friday in Fairfield Township Cemetery, Albert City, Iowa. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Kenneth was born May 6, 1940, in Kingsley, Iowa, the son of Ernest and Helen (Plendl) Gries. He attended school and graduated from Kingsley High School.
Kenneth married Kathryn Lundquist on July 28, 1962, in Albert City, Iowa. They made their home in Sioux City. Kenneth joined the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged. He worked as a machinist at Sioux Tools/Snap On for more than 40 years before he retired.
Kenneth attended Grace United Methodist Church and Southern Hills Baptist Church. He enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling, and shopping for cars.
Survivors include a daughter, Karen Gries of New Bedford, Mass.; a son, Keith and Angie Gries of Sioux Falls, S.D.; five grandchildren, Liticia, Michael, Marco, Madison and Tyler; four brothers, Lawrence Gries of Mississippi, Eldon and Linda Gries of Des Moines, and Vern Gries and Francis and Ruth Gries, all of Sioux City; a sister, Lorraine Gries of McCook Lake, S.D.; nieces, nephews and other relatives; and friends.
