He moved with his family to Sioux City in 1978, and continued working at Burlington Northern, now BNSF Railway. He retired from BNSF Railway on December 2, 2008 after 36 years of service.

Kenny was the most wonderful and best husband, father, grandpa, and great grandpa. He loved spending time with his family. Kenny was always laughing and positive about life. He would do anything to help anyone and everyone.

Kenny loved to travel to visit family and friends. He liked to go on bike rides and go to the movies with his wife, Linda. He enjoyed watching Westerns and game shows. He enjoyed working with all the guys on the railroad, remembering their birthdays by heart. After he retired, Kenny still got together with the fellows he worked with for lunch.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Johnson. His daughters: Kindra (Warren) VanVeen of Carroll, IA, Jenny Johnson of Kansas City, MO, and Misty (Jay) Nelson of Bemidji, MN. His sister, Marsha (Harlan) Kuntz of St. Ansgar, IA. His sister-in-law, Jenni (Scott) McConnell of Burnsville, MN. His close family friend, Reggie Nelson. His many loved nieces and nephews.
