Kenneth J. Stanley, 79, of Sergeant Bluff died Thursday, July 28, 2016, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Grace Lutheran Church in Sioux City, with the Rev. Tony Allard officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. Condolences may be left at

Kenneth was born on Feb. 5, 1937, to Gerald and Dorothy (Craig) Stanley. He graduated in 1955 from Holly Springs (Iowa) High School. After graduating, he served in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1958. He attended the University of South Dakota and took a course in engineering
He married Karen (Kilzer) Harvey on Feb. 14, 1976.
He worked for the City of Sioux City for 47-and-a-half years in the engineering department. He worked under Charles McCreary at the McCreary Sawmill in Sergeant Bluff. He later co-owned the sawmill with Glenn McCreary.
He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, where he served on many boards and helped with activities. He loved flying. He was a member of EAA Chapter 291 (Experimental Aircraft Association) and AOPA (Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association). He took instructions at Martin Airfield in South Sioux City to get his many licenses.
Ken enjoyed gardening, especially growing roses.
Survivors include his wife, Karen; three children, April (Chris) Stewart, Carrie (Alex) Christensen and Andrew Stanley; seven grandchildren, Kristy and Jacob Stewart, Aurora and Cyra Christensen, and Brieanna, Andrea and Lela Stanley; four sisters, Suzie Hopkins, Doris (Fred) Fry, Dixie (Darrel) Iverson, and Alice (Lewis) Gordon; one brother, Byron (Linda) Stanley; one aunt, Emma Craig; and many nieces and nephews.
