Kent N. Harrold

November 26, 1953 — July 24, 2012

SIOUX CITY | Kent N. Harrold, 58, of Sioux City, formerly of Columbus, Ohio, passed away July 24, 2012, with Hospice Care at Touchstone Living Center, following a lengthy battle with multiple health concerns.
Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Manson, Iowa, with visitation one hour prior to the Mass of Christian Burial. A fellowship and light lunch will follow the funeral Mass at the Church Hall, with inurnment scheduled for a later date. A visitation will be held at 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the Christy Smith Larkin Chapel, Sioux City.
Arrangements are under the direction of Christy Smith Funeral Home and Larsen Weishaar Funeral Home in Manson.
Kent was born Nov. 26, 1953, to Don and Marie (Kirby) Harrold of Palmer, Iowa. Kent grew up on a farm near Palmer, Iowa, and attended school at Palmer Public Schools and Pocahontas Catholic School.
Following graduation, he attended Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa, and graduated with a bachelor’s of science degree with distinction in public administration and agriculture services. Kent’s work included the Farm and Home Administration, A.O. Smith Corp. and the Social Security Administration.
Kent loved to sing throughout his life while in school, fraternity, musicals at ISU, and church. Some of Kent’s most memorable moments were with his 4-H involvement, Farm House Fraternity at ISU and he was an avid ISU football and basketball fan. At the 1972 Iowa State Fair, Kent showed the 4-H Grand Champion market hog. In 1987, Kent and 2 fraternity brothers traveled to China and his work covered much of the Northeast U.S. and Eastern Canada.
When experiencing mounting health issues, Kent moved to Sioux City to be near his brother Doug in August 2011.
Survivors include 2 brothers, Doug Harrold, Sioux City; Dennis Harrold, Belle Plaine, Minn.; 3 aunts; Vivian Kirby, Colleen Murman, and Delores Harrold; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends; and special friends, John and Sharon Davis, who provided support and friendship to Kent while he lived in Columbus.
Kent was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Stephen; a sister, Karen Simpson; several aunts and uncles; cousins; and special friends.
Kent’s wishes were that in lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Student Center in Ames, Iowa 4-H Foundation, Farm House Fraternity Foundation, and/or the ISU Marching Band.
