Kevin Joe Cole

NORTH SIOUX CITY -- Kevin J. Cole, 49, of North Sioux City passed away Saturday, Dec. 17, 2011, at a local hospital after a long, courageous battle with cancer.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Friendship Community Church in Sergeant Bluff. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery at Sioux City. Visitation will be 3:30 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home, 1801 Morningside Avenue.
Kevin was born on Jan. 12, 1962, in North Platte, Neb. As a young child, the family moved to South Sioux City and he remained a resident of the Siouxland area.
He was united in marriage to Lynn Sweatt on Feb. 11, 1986, at Elk Point, S.D. Kevin was a former employee of Gateway and retired from BPI in operations in Dakota Dunes.
He was a member of the Friendship Community Church in Sergeant Bluff. Kevin enjoyed fishing, basketball, Nebraska and Viking football, family and friends, camping and going to the gym.
Survivors include his wife, Lynn Cole of North Sioux City; daughter, Lisa Cole and son, Keith Cole, both of North Sioux City; two sisters, Pam Osbar of Mesa, Ariz., and Angel and Tom Cushing of Allen, Kan.; three brothers, Rod Whitmore, Glenn Whitmore and James Kile, all of Hastings, Neb.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a nephew, Cory; and mother-in-law, Blanche Counterman.
