Kevin P. Larkin, 65, Sioux City, Iowa died Monday, May 28,2012 at his home after a seven month illness.
Funeral services will be at 10:30am Saturday, June 2, 2012 in the Blessed Sacrament Church. Fr. Michael T. Larkin, brother of the deceased and Fr. Merlin Schrad, pastor of the parish will celebrate the mass. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00pm to 8:00pm Friday in the Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Homes. The family will be present from 6:00 to 8:00pm
Kevin was born on May 8, 1947 in Sioux City. He was the son of Philip and Eileen (Mc Grane) Larkin. He was a lifelong Sioux City resident. Kevin graduated from Heelan High School in 1966 and attended Briar Cliff College. He then attended the San Francisco School of Mortuary Science. He served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War being stationed in Guam. After returning to Sioux City he worked for the family business, The Larkin Funeral Home. Kevin and his brother, Dennis owned and operated the funeral home for many years until the business was merged with the Christy-Smith Funeral Homes in 2006. Kevin stayed with the funeral home until his retirement in October of 2011. Kevin was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church where he served as an usher and Eucharistic minister. He was also a member of the 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus, Council 743 and the 4th degree Knights of Columbus, Garrigan Assembly. He was a member of the Iowa Funeral Directors Association and National Funeral Director Association. Kevin enjoyed League Bowling and was an avid reader, especially enjoying history. He was a New York Yankee and Kansas City Chiefs fan. Kevin was a very kind and generous man who never wanted to be in the spotlight. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by 8 brothers and sisters, Shaun O’Meara of Hudson, WI, Fr. Mike Larkin of Sioux City, IA, Maureen and David O'Meara of Shakopee, MN, Gene and Nancy Larkin of Pleasant Hill, CA, Lael Larkin of Sinsinawa, WI, Sr. Kerry Larkin, OSM of Oshkosh, WI, Dennis Larkin of Sioux City, IA Pat Larkin of San Francisco, CA. 14 nieces and nephews 13 great nieces and nephews
He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, Philip and Joseph, a brother in law, Tom O'Meara and a sister in law, Linda Larkin.
