Khamphay Sayavong, 83, of Sergeant Bluff died Friday, May 8, 2015, at Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg, Iowa.
Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Salix, Iowa, with the Rev. Patrick O'Kane officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be 9 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Khamphay was born on Nov. 17, 1931, in Ban Paksan, Laos. She married Sao Sayavong in 1948. Together, they were farmers. In 1988, they entered the United States as refugees. Khamphay became a United States citizen on March 26, 2004.
She loved gardening, fishing, and gambling. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Salix.
Survivors include her husband, Sao Sayavong of Sergeant Bluff; her children, Phimphone Inthongsay of Storm Lake, Iowa, Phimmasone Philavahn of Storm Lake, Khonesavanh Syharath of Sergeant Bluff, Chanthone Srimeaung of Storm Lake, George Youi Sayavong of Sioux City, Houi Keomala of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, Poui S. Sayavong of Sergeant Bluff, Khamla S. Vongnalath of Sioux City, and Loni Bannavong of Sergeant Bluff. She was blessed with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three sons; and a daughter.
