Kim W. Peniska
SIOUX CITY -- Kim Ward Peniska, 54, of Sioux City died Saturday, Feb. 6, 2010, at a Sioux City hospital following a lengthy illness.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Kevin Lee of Morningside Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.
Kim was born March 4, 1955, in Sioux City, the son of Edward W. and Thelma M. (St. Clair) Peniska. He was a lifelong resident of Sioux City. He graduated from West High School in 1975.
He married Debra Nelson on June 6, 1984, in Sioux City. She preceded him in death on Oct. 31, 2002, in Sioux City. He worked as a quality control inspector for the Load King Company in Elk Point, S.D. for 35 years.
He was a member of Morningside Lutheran Church. He was an active member of the United Electrical Workers Union Local 1187. He was a past president of the local and traveled all over the country promoting the union. He enjoyed fishing, traveling, bowling, car racing and rodeos. He enjoyed rooting for his favorite sports teams that included the Michigan Wolverines and the Chicago Bears. He was an avid fan of hockey, girls' basketball and riding motorcycles.
He is survived by his brother, Donald of Arlington, Va.; two sisters, Sandra and George Herman of San Antonio, Texas, and Karen Nelson of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; several nieces and nephews; his stepdaughter, Bobbi and her husband, Shane Evers; two stepgrandchildren, Justus and Brock Harrington-Pearson; a special friend, Lee Reinhart of Sergeant Bluff; and a special cousin, Audrey Peniska of Sioux City.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Debra; his brother-in-law, Darwin Nelson; a stepgranddaughter, Tessa Pearson; and his dogs, Bear, Kissy and Bronco.
A memorial has been established in his name for Morningside Lutheran Church and the Kidney Foundation.
