Larry Dean Severeide passed away unexpectedly on March 14, 2024.
A Memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at Christy-Smith Funeral Homes, Morningside Chapel (1801 Morningside Ave) with a visitation taking place one hour prior.
Larry Severeide was born on March 21, 1945, to Robert and Verna (Lehman) Severeide in Fresno, California. The family moved to Sioux City, Iowa, while Larry was still young. He graduated from East High School and attended Morningside College for 3 years. Larry served in the U.S. Air Force and was honorably discharged.
On May 7, 1967, Larry was united in marriage to Roberta Towler at Morningside Presbyterian Church. Roberta passed away on September 18, 2013. The couple had been married for 46 years.
Larry and his father founded the Morningside Shopper, he worked for A&A Photo for a few years, and was employed at Knoepfler Chevrolet until he retired in 2013 to take care of his parents. Larry was a member of Sunnybrook Community Church since 2016. In his spare time, he enjoyed duck and pheasant hunting, fishing, working in the yard and watching sports and racing. He especially enjoyed attending his children’s and grandchildren’s dance recitals, musical productions and sporting events.
Survivors include his children, Stacy (Shane) Madison of Tampa, Florida, Stephanie (Chris) Groves of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa, Shane (Megan) Severeide of Jackson, Nebraska, and Shelli (Jeff) Jepsen of Sioux City, Iowa; his grandchildren, Maika and Sarah Madison, Ashlyn (Ben) Hoskins, Conner Groves, Guy Severeide, and Ella and Cal Jepsen; and his sisters, Kathy Bender, Sherry Severeide, and Barb Severeide.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Roberta, granddaughter Carleigh Jepsen, and brother Craig Severeide.
