LaRue Burdette Hansen, 83, of Sioux City, died Friday, Oct. 28, 2016, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Morningside Lutheran Church, 700 S. Martha St., with the Rev. Tom LoVan officiating. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery at Akron, Iowa. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 5 to 8 p.m., and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home, 1801 Morningside Ave. Online condolences may be made to the family at

Lou was born Dec. 20, 1932, near Beresford, S.D., to Melvin and Alice (Miller) Hansen. He attended country school in both South Dakota and Iowa. Lou entered the U.S. Navy in December 1952 and was honorably discharged in December 1956.
He married Adele Rozell on July 8, 1955, in Akron, Iowa, at Trinity Lutheran Church. After his military service, he returned to Sioux City, and worked for Mack Truck and Salsness GMC. He later went to work for the Iowa Department of Transportation as a diesel mechanic.
His hobbies included working on automobiles, fixing mowers, doing yard work, woodworking, playing cards, dancing, fishing and spending time with family at the lake in Minnesota and enjoying family time in Iowa.
Lou was a member of Morningside Lutheran Church, where he served as an usher and a former softball team member. He was a member of the "Boys of 68."
Survivors include his wife, Adele of Sioux City; daughter, Pamela Hansen of Sioux City; brother, Curtis Hansen of Le Mars, Iowa; sister-in-law, Phyllis and her husband, Glenn Hamann of Le Mars; sister-in-law, Delores and her husband, Gerald Westhoff of Craig, Iowa; brother-in-law, LeRoy Rozell of Akron, Iowa; and sister-in-law, Karen Hartman of Sioux City.
He was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Arthur and Louise Rozell; sister-in-law, Barbara Hansen; brother-in-law, Arlan Oltmanns; brother-in-law, Richard Hartman.
