Laura Mae Dam, 94 of Sioux City, Iowa died on Friday, November 22, 2024, at Sunrise Retirement Community in Sioux City, Iowa.

A Funeral service will be at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, November 27th at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel located at 1801 Morningside Ave. Sioux City, Iowa 51106 with Chaplain Jon Moravec officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Sioux City, IA.

The family will receive friends from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel, 1801 Morningside Ave., Sioux City, Iowa.

Laura was born January 15, 1930 in Merrill, Iowa, to Louis and Esther (Haller) Janson, the family later moved to Sioux City where Laura graduated from East High School. Laura married Jack Dam on May 31, 1948. Jack and Laura spent sixty-six wonderful years together. Jack passed away May 29, 2014. The couple had five children: Jacqueline, Barbara, Karen, Brian, and Craig.

She was a member of St. James Global Methodist Church and McCook Lake Methodist Church, various ladies’ circles at church, and the Red Hat Society, she also delivered Meals on Wheels during retirement. Laura enjoyed spending time at McCook Lake and family time, cooking, gardening, crocheting, needle point and was a wonderful seamstress. Laura and Jack loved to travel. During her time at Sunrise, she enjoyed playing bridge, bingo and doing puzzles with her friends.

Those left to cherish her memory include her two daughters, Jacqueline Butler and Barbara (Tim) Hattig all of Sioux City; two sons, Brian (Kristine) Dam of Sioux City and Craig (Gina) Dam of McCook Lake, SD; son in-law, Doug Johnson of Sioux City; eleven grandchildren, David (Amber) Slothower, Diann Slothower, Russell (Lisa) Hattig, Ryan (Cati) Hattig, Anne Johnson, Lee (Jacey) Johnson, Rob Dam, Sara Dam, T.J. (Andrea), Dam, Brady (Bailee) Dam and Katie Dam, ten great grandchildren; Christopher Slothower, Brianna Slothower, Sofia Johnson, Russel Hattig, Dakota Dam, Brooks Dam, Wilson Johnson, Sawyer Johnson, Bennett Johnson and Ella Louise Johnson, one great-great grandchild Ryder Slothower; two sisters, Joyce Bennett and Ruth Staben both of Sioux City; a brother Ron Janson of Texas; along with many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband Jack, daughter Karen, parents Louis and Esther Janson and her in-laws Jack and Estella Dam.

Memorials may be made to the family and will later be designated to several charities.
